14:15~14:55 Environmentally friendly pretreatment technology for resin plating as an alternative to hexavalent chromium Kanto Gakuin University
Materials and Surface Engineering Research Institute
Lecturer
Mr. Yasushi Umeda

Conventionally, pre-treatment with hexavalent chromium and sulfuric acid was required for plating on plastic products for automobiles and electrical appliances. However, with the imposition of REACH and RoHS regulations, the study of plating methods that do not use hexavalent chromium has become an urgent issue. To this end, we have been studying pre-treatment of ABS and PP resins using UV irradiation, fine bubble low-concentration ozone water, and electrolytic sulfuric acid as pre-treatment techniques for plastics that do not use hexavalent chromium. In this seminar, we would like to introduce part of the research being conducted in collaboration with the Materials and Surface Engineering Research Center of Kanto Gakuin University and Chiba Institute of Technology.

[Speaker profile]
After developing plating processes for automotive, aircraft, flying objects, and semiconductor materials for 28 years, he worked for a US semiconductor equipment manufacturer and is currently a visiting researcher, assistant professor, and lecturer at Kanto Gakuin University. He is currently researching environmentally friendly fine bubble low-concentration ozone water, electrolytic sulfuric acid, and UV-based plating pretreatment methods for resins, as well as environmentally friendly high-speed electrolytic nickel and high-speed electrolytic copper plating.

15:05~15:45 Regeneration of paint booth waterfall water with ozone. Environmental Development Research Institute
President and CEO
Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura

Equipment Overview
The water purification equipment for washing booths in paint factories is a purification device that uses the powerful oxidizing action of ozone to sterilize, deodorize, decompose, and decolorize booth water, which is usually discarded, so that it can be reused instead of being discarded.
There are no consumables and the only maintenance required is cleaning, and the only running cost is a small electricity bill, which allows for significant expense savings and has a great economic effect.

[Speaker profile]
After many years of involvement in the design and manufacture of one-off and custom-made measurement and control equipment, the company established Environmental Development Engineering Co., Ltd. in September 2003 with the aim of manufacturing and selling environmental equipment. Initially, the company manufactured and sold air purifiers, but after hearing about the need to remove foul odors from paint factories, the company began developing paint booth water purification equipment in 2010, which was completed in 2017. Since then, the company has developed several types according to the amount of booth water to be treated, and has continued to operate as a specialized manufacturer of booth water purification equipment to this day.

15:55~16:35 Development of film decoration technology for environmental friendliness
- Estimating environmental effects and approaching their implementation -
Nippon Paint Automotive Coatings
Film Division
Manager
Mr. Kazuto Kobayashi

"Carbon neutrality" is a common issue in the automobile industry, and the situation is already shifting to one where it is necessary not only to reduce emissions from in-house plants, but also to respond with LCA. Film decoration technology is one of the important measures, but it is also a new decoration method, and there are many verification issues to be addressed before it can be realized. This presentation will clearly state what these verification issues are, discuss the verification results, present the value of film decoration technology and its feasibility, and provide an opportunity to think about future environmental measures, proposing the effectiveness of problem-solving by combining the three elements of "market/customer," "equipment/line," and "decorative materials/materials."

[Speaker profile]
Since joining the company, he has been engaged in the development of coating agents for films. With a wide range of experience, from the development of paints for industrial use to the development of paints for automobiles, he began to consider film decoration technology for automobiles with environmental considerations as the starting point. Starting with the market introduction of decorative films for automobile interiors, he expanded the scope of development to automobile exterior specifications, and while promoting material and process development, he also extensively handled calculations of the environmental burden associated with the process, and promoted the market introduction of new technologies aimed at environmental considerations.

15:10~15:55 Phosphate supply chain and domestic self-sufficiency Phosphorus Recycling Industry Promotion Organization
Secretariat
Secretary General
Ms. Tokumi Yoyama

Phosphate is used in the agricultural sector as a raw material for fertilizers, and in a wide range of manufacturing sectors, including food, automobiles, electronic parts, and pharmaceuticals. The starting raw material for phosphoric acid production is phosphate rock, and Japan has no choice but to rely on overseas sources, despite the supply risks. This presentation will outline the current tightness of the phosphoric acid supply chain, efforts to utilize domestic resources in the phosphoric acid industry, and the possibility of domestic self-sufficiency in phosphoric acid without relying on overseas sources.

[Speaker profile]
He is a doctor of engineering and graduated from the Department of Industrial Chemistry at Kyushu Institute of Technology in 1975. He joined Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. in the same year, and retired in 2018 after working at Nippon Phosphoric Acid Co., Ltd. During his tenure, he was involved in the production management of phosphoric acid manufacturing facilities, process development research, and the utilization of unused phosphorus resources. In 2020, he became Secretary General of the Phosphorus Recycling Industry Promotion Organization (IPI).
